Hi. I am Betty Bhandari, the woman behind lens and a German with an Indian surname through marriage (it is pronounced Ban-dah-ree).
I came to photography through observation.
As a teenager, I was drawn to portrait photography — to the process of watching someone settle into themselves in front of the camera. I was fascinated not just by how people looked, but by how they revealed themselves. Photography allowed me to explore both creativity and human psychology at the same time.
Despite this, I chose to study architecture. It felt like the more sensible and ambitious path. Architecture taught me structure, discipline, and how to think carefully about space, balance, and composition. But alongside my studies and later my work, I continued to photograph my friends and people around me.. I was never short of creative ideas, and portraiture remained the work that felt most natural to me.
It wasn’t until I became a mother and left London for Somerset that I decided to build a photography business fully. What began as a practical decision — creating work that could exist alongside family life — grew into something much more meaningful.
In 2012, I officially started my journey as a professional photographer when I started my wedding photography business.
Over time, I became increasingly drawn to working with business owners, creatives, and professionals. People who were deeply committed to what they do, and who wanted to present themselves clearly and professionally.
Many of the people I work with are highly capable, yet unsure how to translate that into their visual presence. They may feel uncomfortable being photographed, or feel that their existing images don’t reflect who they are or where they are going.
I understand that tension.
My approach is calm, thoughtful, and structured. I guide you through the process so you don’t have to perform or become someone else. Instead, we create the conditions where you can feel at ease and present.
My work sits at the intersection of portrait photography, psychology, and professional visibility.
I am interested in how we see ourselves, how we allow ourselves to be seen, and how this shapes our personal and professional lives.
Photography, at its best, helps close the gap between who you are and how you show up.
