George Bayntun is a very specialized book shop that sells rare classics like the first edition Charles Dickens Christmas Story and handmakes the most detailed and beautiful new bindings. The skills the craftsmen and -women show is very rare and absolutely enticing to observe. The George Bayntun shop is known world wide and Edward sell to many of the rich and famous.
I took these photographs for an article in our local Bath Life magazine which was published in December 2019. Visiting the shop and adjacent workshop was an amazing experience, as there was just so much to see and photograph! The workshop was situated at the back of the book shop and considering that it was located right in the centre of Bath, it was absolutely massive and full of machines, tools and work stations.
The current owner and great-grandson of George Bayntun, Edward, welcomed me and we quickly realised we had met before at a different event. Edward is probably one of the most fun people ever, I have never met anybody who is so full of interesting stories!
